EFBA status report on scientific research presented to European Commission

The European Fur Breeders Association (EFBA) has presented its status report on scientific research to the European Commission.
The fur farming community has a long history of ongoing scientific research in a wide range of animal welfare related issues. The report identifies the current scientific consensus on those topics and shows the way European fur farmers want to go forward in innovative animal welfare research and implementing the results.

Wim Verhagen, chairman of EFBA, explains the reasons behind the status report: 'This is an important step in an open and constructive dialogue with the European Commission in particular and Europeans citizens in general. Also the report of the Commissions own Veterinary Scientific Committee could not be unanswered. It is now considered to be highly biased in the scientific community, as six of its original drafters have withdrawn their support of the conclusions. Scientific evidence has been the basis for the latest Council of Europe's Recommendations on fur farming. Fur farmers throughout Europe are still investing millions of Euros to meet those recommendations. We support real improvements linked to a viable investment program. Our ambition continues to be in the vanguard of animal welfare improvements now and in the future'.
